What is the International Construction Challenge?
... this fully-funded exciting and educational experience brings together high school teams from across the United States and Canada to learn more about construction careers, infrastructure, construction equipment, creative problem solving and teamwork
... there are two phases to the Construction Challenge: Regional Qualifying Rallies and the International Finals Tournament
... all teams must compete in a Regional Qualifying Rally on January 12, 2008 in order to advance to the Finals Tournament
... each of the six Regional Rally sites will have approximately 36 teams
... only 60 teams will advance to the Finals Tournament in Las Vegas, NV on March 10-14, 2008

Who can participate?
... this is a team-based event for high school level students
... all team members must be enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) or equivalent technical or vocational schools.
... each team must have at least five members and cannot have more than seven
... each team must have a supervising adult Team Manager that is at least 21 years old
... each team must have the full support of their school administration
and parents for the Regional Rally and Finals in Las Vegas
... AEM Members are sponsoring the basic travel, room and board for each team that advances to the Finals event in Las Vegas


How does it work?
... teams register to participate in a local Regional Qualifying Rally
... teams complete the prep documentation, forms and activities prior to competing at the Regional Rally
... teams that win at the Regional Rally will convene after the rally for an extensive meeting that will cover the full Construction Challenge and travel arrangements
... advancing teams work for the eight weeks after the Regional Rally to complete all three components of the Construction Challenge
... Destination ImagiNation, Inc. will coordinate with your Team Manager for all travel, room and board arrangements with advancing teams
... the Finals event in Las Vegas takes place at one of the largest tradeshows on the planet:
CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008
... all teams that register must commit to fully participate in the Regional Rally and the entire Finals event

Construction Challenge Preview

  • The Construction Challenge includes three components:
    Dialogue (30%): Researched presentation, moderated discussion/debate on the relationships between infrastructure and quality of life

  • Product Development (30%): Research, design and development of
    new product

  • Road Warrior (40%): Explore infrastructure issues and implement a solution with team created construction equipment
