The challenges in the construction industry are real and the need is great.

Did you know…
The average age of today's construction worker is 52.
Due to the large number of baby boomer retirements - the construction industry is experiencing a growing workforce shortage.
The construction industry needs to add 1,000,000 jobs to the workforce by 2012.

Companies sponsoring Construction Challenge understand the workforce crisis they are facing and are stepping forward to help solve the problem.

One 2008 sponsor notes, "Construction Challenge offers us the opportunity to support and encourage the next generation of workers. Skilled and enthusiastic workers are one of the most valuable assets to any industry. That's why we are proud to nurture the future workforce."

AEM, VCE and DI are working together to develop the future workforce that can work together, solve real challenges, and positively impact the quality of life around the globe.

Construction Challenge is:

  • Electric – Unlike any other event, participants experience the excitement, intensity and wow-factor of developing their completed Challenges.
  • Direct Connect – Through Construction Challenge, teams are directly connected to an industry and companies that are nurturing the workforce of tomorrow. These companies are actively looking for talented and motivated employees for a wide range of careers – from engineering, sales and human resources to service tech, project management and graphic design.
  • Transforming – The dynamic Rally process raises awareness and changes perceptions of construction and how the industry impacts our quality of life. Additionally, teens see how they can make a difference in the world by exploring career options in the industry.
  • Active – Teams research infrastructure and construction issues in advance (6-8 hours total), as well as participate in hands-on Challenges at the Rally.
  • Credible & Co-Curricular – Construction Challenge, like all Destination ImagiNation® products, supports your curriculum and is tied to educational standards.
High School Team registration ($125/team) is open at www.constructionchallenge.org. With a maximum of 50 teams per rally, registration slots are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
